January, 1999. - Activity in the shops
4,500 litre elevated fuel tank has been aquired for installation within The Depot grounds.
CPH Rail Motor No. 7 entered the Depot shops for repair and No. 2 end bogie was removed for scheduled maintenance inspection.
CPH Rail Motor No. 3 entered the Depot shops during November, 1998, for a major overhaul.
The overhaul will be done in two stages and CPH No. 3 will emerge from the shops virtually rebuilt. The first stage will concentrate on the body of the Rail Motor and this work has commenced. The second stage will deal with the underframe and will commence after the bodywork is completed.
Stage 1 of the overhaul has commenced and all framing and body work is being inspected and replaced where required. Steel framing is being installed in both ends to support the new 18 mm thick end windows
by a carriage builder and carpenter joiner. The body is being stripped so new electrical wiring can be run throughout the car to replace the ageing wiring which is prone to faults due to the breakdown of the insulated covering. The plywood body panels, both internal and external are being replaced to give No. 3 a renewed finish which will last for years to come.
The expected completion date for this work is late 1999. The news section will attempt to keep you informed as the work progresses.
